Watching the Future Roll In and Trying Not to Get Crushed By It

Happy 2025. It’s going to be a wild year.  The future is coming fast. I want to explore what’s coming here. So my goal will be to blog once a week on signals that suggest our brave new world. Feel free to add your own. My goal is to share at least three a week but will do more if I find more.  The future has to be conversation.

Here are some interesting things happening, and what I think they mean.

Future of Art

Coursera offers the AI Poetry Course: Write Beautiful Poems With ChatGPT

If self-publishing, blogs and YouTube opened the door for all of us to be active artists and creators, AI both threatens to replace and to help us get better. If we doubt our artistry, then we have a helper. I’m using it as a helper. AI generated the featured image based on the title and the section titles. What do you think?

Future of Vehicles

Last year (okay in May) California passed a law to allow autonomous vehicles on the highway. It’s on my radar because I was recently in San Francisco and took a Waymo around the city.  The future is to be experienced.  The cars have yet to go on the highway with customers, but that door has been opened.  I’m getting ideas. I’ve started writing a spec mystery, and I am imagining an autonomous getaway driver. But only to support human thieves.  AI can rob banks just by playing with the numbers. But why would it want to? That is a question worth exploring.

The Future of Energy

Did you know that some of the European countries are building energy islands.  What are these, you may ask. I certainly did. They are artificial islands which are built to collect and distribute renewable energy – mostly offshore wind.  While they can be disruptive to nature, they are working on a nature friendly design.
